Your Orbit 04:21
The light has awoken Up in the morning Over a silver lake And the sun also rises The stars are hidden behind your ears And they've melted my voice I swam through your orbit And I found refuge there They are the ones who know you Though I don't, I want to So... Open your eyes and shine Open your eyes and shine Open your eyes and shine Before I open my mouth and burn Blue heart and black eyes Darkness your disguise While I struggle with plasticide You exit via the hall I am the one that knows you When they don't seem to want to So... Open your eyes and shine Open your eyes and shine Open your eyes and shine Before I open my mouth and burn

I would live my whole life over, just to see your Parisian eyes not leave mine tonight You're out of sight, but not out of mind I'd have walked you safely back to a hotel in lower Manhattan, it's a place I don't know too well And now I wonder if you made it home Cause when I went and rode away, I felt so goddamn lonesome Like I was living in a play of characters with no name And so I'll search the whole world over, just to catch a glimpse of you I promise that it's true, I will crawl til I see you again And when I do I will call from afar, remind you that every moment spent was apart I wanna know you, my pink flower I would live my whole life over, just to see your Parisian eyes not leave mine tonight You're out of sight, but not out of mind

Air 05:20
Am I just sitting here with nothing to show? And am I worthless even with all that I've come to know? And I'm ashamed of what I've become Is there no pride in all that I've said and done? Is there no meaning in all of the songs that I've sung? Have these tortured melodies all come undone? I wish there was a way that I could explain Just how I got here, just pick a name The air is so much clearer without you These steps that I take no longer keep me out of breath The ashes are blowing with the wind Who would've thought that I'd be burning this bridge?

Zombie Eyes 02:58
I want to reach down and feel holy again But I don't know how There's no light to guide me now Only place to go is down Only place to go is down And when all my friends have left my side And there's no one left to confide In all the secrets in my mind I will see through a dead man's eyes I will see through a dead man's eyes And all of this will surely fade Deep into the waves And then into my grave I will never wake I will never wake

Disoriented beyond belief, I'm walking with stone tablets stapled to my feet And when I see the pictures posted on the wall it makes me want to scream in anger at what was never there at all And I can hear birds sing, but I don't know what they mean, still their melodies come straight and true And as they fly across the sky, I can see why they love to stay among the trees and not walk around on their feet Shape without form, shade without color Paralyzed force, gesture without motion Eyes I dare not meet in dreams Walking through the forests filled with sand under my feet I can't catch the grip, I need your loving hands I'd look up at your beautiful face through this half eaten heart that you delicately left me with Watching your hair blow through the wind with a smile on your face while I feel like shards of broken glass I'm a half hearted boy with not a cause in the world No one's ever here to protect me anymore When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose but I'm still tired of living in desolation row I don't want to wait for the rest of my life To see the holy spectacle where a mighty god lies Shape without form, shade without color Paralyzed force, gesture without motion Eyes I dare not meet in dreams But it's your eyes that I see whenever I lay down to sleep Why should I try to build the kingdom, without you it wouldn't mean a thing And I'm missing every thing you ever said, even though it wasn't much of anything No it wasn't much of anything Shape without form, shade without color Paralyzing force, gesture without motion Eyes I only meet in dreams This is how the world ends This is how the story ends This is how your love ends This is how your life ends Not with a bang, but a lonely whimper It's not with a bang, but a lonely whimper This is how the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper

about

This EP is a small collection of songs I recorded this spring that never quite made it onto the three Midwestern Dirt records or are from older projects such as my previous moniker "Take the Veil". These songs aren't necessarily indicative of where the next proper MD album is headed, both in terms of recording quality and song content, but it was a blast for me to explore them again. Some of the songs are over 10 years old at this point; "Air" and "Half Hearted Boy" were written when I was literally a teenager. The emotions that inspired these tracks have been smoothed out over the years or have completely worn away altogether, leaving nothing but the husk of long gone angst, longing, and perceived heartbreak. With that said, it was rewarding to discover that for the most part these songs I wrote so long ago still have merit and something honest to say at the very least. Let's give them one more day in the sun.

Some of the lyrics in track 5, "Half Hearted Boy", borrow/steal liberally from T.S. Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men".

Some of the guitar parts in "Air" were inspired by what the immortal Steve Hamilton played on the 2010 Take the Veil version of the song.
